ADVENT_ a new beginning

As the church’s year ends and a new one begins, let’s stop and ponder on where we are going for a while.

The beginning of the busy and silly season is upon us, where we get so wrapped up in all the things we have to do and find that we make no time for God. But don’t you find that when you pack everything in, you can’t do things properly the way they deserve to be done?

I understand that we want to do everything and please everyone,  but when one tries to do that we please no-one, not the least -ourselves.

Life on earth is so short and  the years seem to go faster at each stage of our lives. Why don’t we try to challenge ourselves by spending some quiet time in prayer and reflection and asking ourselves what can we omit, leave out, ignore or say NO to?

If you believe that this life is a test for the next life, then how are you planning to get there?  Do you think on judgement day God will ask us how many times we played sport? Went out with our friends? Took the kids out? Went on holidays? Shopped for pleasure?  Or will He ask us first how much time we spent loving and serving HIM? Not that we can’t have some of these but what can we give up that doesn’t really matter?

We can’t change the past, but we can shape our future.

Some things you can try…..for example:

  • Read the bible
  • Pray more
  • Go to church
  • Alms giving
  • Visit a sick friend
  • Say NO
  • Repent and forgive
  • Speak kind, positive words
  • Keep a positive attitude
  • Believe in God’s abundance
  • Give up something that is not good for you
  • Do something kind for  someone without been asked etc………

So make a list and tick off some of the things you do and keep track of how you have put yourself out to show God that you do love Him.

On the day you enter eternity, how are you going to respond to God’s judgement?

Have a blessed advent season.
I’d love to read your comments.

I end with this beautiful advent song from Amy Grant_ Breath of Heaven

Mark 13:33-37(Gospel for Sunday-3rd Dec.)

33 Be on guard! Be alert[a]! You do not know when that time will come.34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’

I often hear people say why are we waiting for Jesus if He has already come, TRUE!

But don”t we celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations every year?

We live in a fallen world and what a great way to start with advent, to change our ways, to turn back to God, to make Jesus the centre of our lives.

I love the Advent wreath as it helps us focus on Jesus, it helps us keep track of what is to come.  Especially during Advent we open our hearts to God. I try to do that and speaking from experience, I always find myself ahead. I give money and I always have money in my wallet, I help people and there’s always someone there to help me. I fall and by the grace of God, He picks me up, I pray for people and God is there to help them too. God has promised to never leave us and  If you live your life right, God will catch up with you.

As we wait and prepare this Christmas, we are also waiting and preparing for Jesus’s second coming. We do not know the hour , we do not know the day nor year. We can only be redeemed by the grace of God. He knows what’s in our hearts and we should do everything in our power to try and be the best versions of ourselves.  We should keep a heaven perspective. We prepare our holidays, a marriage, children, to buy a house, to retire etc… well then why not for our eternal future???????????

START NOW, START THIS ADVENT, IT’S NEVER TOO LATE!!!!

THE DIFFERENCE A FEW ADJUSTMENTS CAN MAKE

Image result for 21 regrets on your deathbedDuring these last couple of weeks, I have had friends lose loved ones, friends die and I have attended some funerals. With the advent of Christmas and the need to focus on how we can grow spiritually, the research findings below really caught my eye.

We all have regrets, it’s part of our humanness, but wouldn’t it be helpful if we had hindsight?

21 Regrets people confess on their deathbeds

We might even use this list as an examination of conscience, or to help us to pray for the grace to live in a way that might prevent our feeling these regrets later in our lives.

For the times when I set a bad example, and there were people who followed my lead

For my indifference in the face of someone’s suffering

For failing to say so many words of praise, recognition and encouragement to those who deserved them or needed them

For claiming credit for my triumphs but blaming my failures on circumstances

For having failed to respect someone’s innocence or having blocked someone’s dreams

That I wasted money on things that I didn’t need and never used

For the times I took too much time and not enough effort to forgive

For taking advantage of someone who loved me, in order to get something for myself

For not being careful to guide those I should have educated better, before it was too late

For not visiting or sharing time with people because I thought they weren’t interesting, educated or useful

For fleeing the cross so many times

For savoring adulation even while knowing it was false

For complaining much more often than I gave thanks

For the stubborn, vulgar or rude words that came out of my mouth

For participating in conversations making fun of God, the faith or the Church

For wasting so much time on empty things… time that can’t be gotten back

For the promises I didn’t keep

For the times that I could have and should have prayed more, and above all, with more love

For ignoring Jesus.

That I hurt or harmed someone in any way

For lacking love. I should have loved God and my neighbor much more. –

PRAYER

Dear Lord,

Please forgive me for ignoring others and failing to see the truth. Help me to see the error of my ways and to make adjustments to my life so that I can make a difference for myself and for the people around me. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN

THE WORLD NEEDS CHRISTMAS!

THE WORLD NEEDS CHRISTMAS!

Image result for gentle baby jesus

Statistics show that during this time of the year more family feuds begin, divorces and suicides go up, more people die from natural causes, there are more bankruptcies, gambling debts, psychiatrists’ patients suffer regressions etc…..

Have you ever considered why???? There is pressure to be perfect! To buy the most expensive presents, you have to go on holidays etc………

But are we missing the point?????

THE ENEMY IS FRANTICALLY AT WORK ESPECIALLY DURING CHRISTMAS AND EASTER !!! AFTER ALL, GOD HAD A PLAN TO SAVE MANKIND,           THE ENEMY DIDN’T LIKE THAT!!!!

At Christmas and Easter people feel the need to go to church more and pray. People come together as families to celebrate, people are generally happier and want to spend more time with friends, they give more to others, they give to the poor. So the enemy feels under threat and what does he do????? He fights harder!!!!

When Jesus came into the world, Satan lost his power because Jesus overcame death through the cross. Jesus is now ruler of this universe.

The enemy hates the thought of Jesus Christ. God wanted to live among us, so He gave us His Son Jesus Christ because we needed to be saved, saved from the snares of the evil one, saved from eternal damnation. Satan is often referred to as:- the deceiver, the accuser, the father of lies, the prince of /power of darkness etc.

in Luke 10:18. Jesus also said that his mission on earth was “to defeat the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8).  Satan has the advantage over us in that he is an invisible powerful spirit.  One of his greatest tricks on us is to convince so many of us that he doesn’t even exist,

We should all know that whenever we sin seriously, satan and his devils get a toehold on our life, and the lives of our family members.

Since satan has finally figured out that he cannot get at God, he goes for His children here on earth – US!!!.  It’s no different than the mafia knowing that it can hurt you worse if it kills your kids.  However, lucky for us that Jesus established a Church here on earth that regularly dispenses sanctifying grace to us, which is the only way we can defeat satan.

Satan knows our weaknesses and he will start with those. The sense of satan knowing that a family member has gambling issues, alcohol and drug addictions, pornography, infidelity etc…satan will use these weaknesses in others and harass people  to break families apart.

DON’T PANIC!! YOU CAN ENGAGE THE POWER OF JESUS CHRIST. Jesus Christ taught us:-

Repentance,

Forgiveness,

Prayer

ALL THESE WILL KEEP THE ENEMY AT BAY.

JESUS IS OUR HOPE AND OUR SALVATION!!!

So during this advent season ( 4 weeks before Christmas) look to Jesus and his disciple- Bishop Oscar Romero who left us with this quote:-
