When the hand of God is lifted -You’re on your own

It saddens me that I see much selfishness around me, the  ME, Myself and I. The instant gratification mentality, perfecting the body image, fixated on the way people look and to get what I want at all cost, even if it affects family and friends.

We are of the flesh and sure we are going to fail, sure we are going to forget, sure we are going to make bad choices for ourselves.

Jesus in the glory and honour of God the Father and the Holy Spirit, is all knowing and all powerful. Jesus, in heaven, shares with the Father all authority, judgment, and power. All things belong to Jesus.

If one thinks they can live without Jesus, they are kidding themselves. They are not living their life to the fullest, because man’s power is so limited compared to God’s power. So if you live by your own power……………………. never pray, never seek out Jesus, then you are silently, telling Jesus you don’t need Him, you can do well without Him. So His hand has been lifted off you and then you are on your own.

Well Oh Boy! Oh Boy! Have I seen God’s hand been lifted? YES!!!!!!! Since I am in public service, I have seen thousands and thousands of students and families go through terrible situations, not because God caused them, but because of their choices, because they were working by their own power and so why should God interfere with that? Has God not given us a free will???????

It is only when you humble yourself before God that He will stop and listen and lift His hand off you and then bless you and work with you. The hand that radiates love, the hand that giveth, the hand that blesses and makes miracles happen.

Jesus never promised that this life would be void of troubles and tribulations but, He promised that if we follow Him He will keep His promises to help and guide us and lead us to our final resting place with Him in heaven.

I believe God wants us to exercise restraint, to go without, to sacrifice for the common good. To give to others and share, to give of oneself unconditionally is what God is looking for. God doesn’t expect us to perfect this because He knows we never will, but to try, fail and get back up and try again and to ask Jesus to help us on our way.

You might think this is a little cheesey but it’s true, this is just one of the many times God has been at work in my life.  Just the other day, I was at a busy, open air market and  I had a chat with the stall holder, finalised my purchases, I got distracted and left my wallet on her large counter.

I was only about 20 metres away when a voice in my head told me to check my bag, a few steps later again the voice told me to check my bag and so I did. Well! My wallet was not there, was it??????? So, I quickly ran back to the stall , but I couldn’t see it, I asked the stall holder if she had seen my wallet, she said no, as I was speaking, another customer interjected and pointed out where my wallet was. Luckily, I went back in good time, I believe that if I had let 5 more minutes pass, my wallet would not have been there, thanks to the warning. So, I believe God put it in my head to help me.

Another time, I was hit on the rear of my car by a truck, and I was in shock,  a complete stranger came to me and asked me if  she could help. She made all the phone calls, took photos and because the car was unroadworthy the stranger drove me home. I could have been hurt badly but I wasn’t, I could have been left there to fend for myself but I wasn’t and to finish the story, my insurance completed all my claims with cash refund within a week.  I have many more stories but I would need to write a book.

But God in our lives is at work moment by moment if we let Him. I ask Him to and I pray everyday to Him, after all this is the reason for my blog, to bring others to God the Father, The Son and Holy Spirit.

So stay in God’s radar and receive His mighty blessings and power because He is at work day by day and moment by moment.

I recently came across R. A. Torrey-a great evangelist with interesting things to say that caught my eye (see link) –R.A.Torrey history.

It is very easy to put our trust and beliefs in the power of man, but not so in giving God the gratitude He deserves. Giving gratitude to God who allows goodness and success into our lives and who takes away what is harmful and evil, are often dismissed as coincidences or the work of men.  Because these are often intangibles and that which we cannot immediately see, they often go unnoticed.  Make no mistake about it, God is at work in our lives moment by moment, weaving a web of connectedness that will affect all spheres of our lives and others around us.

Some things God does are to teach us something, some things are to give us something, some things are for us to hold on to and some things are for us to give away. Some things are immediate while some things take time because all that we think and do is in keeping with the gift of free will. Sometimes we hold ourselves back because we don’t understand things or because we don’t trust in God. But God is patient, loving, rich in mercy and kind. Think of Him as your Father and what does a Father want for His children? The best of course!

In patience and trust is how we should live our lives, because God has mapped out all of it for us. All we need do is pray and communicate with God through prayer. All we need do is claim it, that which God has already given to us in a box and is sitting there with Him in heaven with your name on it. We should ask for mercy and forgiveness and have a heaven perspective. Make each day a little sacrifice or offering to God so that He can grant you His peace, His grace and His abundance.

Modern Secularism-Our youth don’t believe in the bible anymore

Image result for sin against god catholic

Our youth don’t believe in the bible anymore, many seem to think that if you can’t prove it, then it doesn’t exist, that’s what I hear from teenagers these days and that’s what my teacher friends tell me are their experiences at high school.

The science departments in schools seem to have a foothold on this. Well since when have they become the authority on Theism? They are denying thousands of years of intelligence and they justify it by saying that the bible cannot be proven and that it is  corrupt. If that’s their argument, then why read any book, website, newspaper, bulletin or article? Everything we read has a bias, what renders it credible is the source and the proof that comes with the story. Well everything that was prophesied in the Old testament has been realized in the New Testament. Prophets who were chosen by God and who gave their lives for the truth, were all God inspired. Their words came from God. The bible is a living book and should be read as if God were talking to us in the now.

Sin creates an infinite disorder with God. The more dignified the person is that is offended, the more grievous the offence is…..(St. Thomas Aquinas)

The laws  of the western world have been inspired by the bible, if the bible is irrelevant then western society has become irrelevant too.

There is nothing God doesn’t know about man or that He still needs to learn and see about him, because He knows it all. We have been created by God, we have been created in His image, we are wired for God. There are enough testaments of people who weren’t  christian, who lived in non christian countries who have found God.

This is the exact reason why we should have respect for what cannot be explained by science. Faith is the evidence of what cannot be proved. There are dogmas that are mysteries, but that are exactly the true test of our faith.

God owes us nothing, the universe belongs to Him. God knows all our sins and only our truth and belief can justify us in the eyes of God through His Son Jesus. Jesus Christ as our mediator, Jesus Christ who offered Himself for reparation of our sins. Jesus Christ the perfect bridge joining man and God together.   (Scott M. Sullivan).

That’s the mystery of God, He would rather have 1 true believer that 100 unbelievers or robots who think or say ……”Yes that’s nice!” “Or that’s how it was then but it’s different now”.  God doesn’t want fans, He wants commitment, He wants your heart, He wants you to fight for Him, He wants you to believe without condition.

The God inspired bible was not written with an expiry date. God’s realm has no time, He lives in a spirit world where time is of no relevance to God. He knew it then and He knows it now………. the heart of man. After all, He is the all knowing and all loving and it’s for this reason that He gave us His Son Jesus Christ to redeem us.

Jesus’ teachings were not just meant for the time in which He lived but for all times and for all people, the problems our ancestors faced 100 or 1000, 2000 years ago for example, still exist now:- unbelief, jealousy, dishonesty, laziness, theft, murder, coveting another’s property, adultery, greed, lust, drugs and alcohol addictions, vanity  etc…. These all existed then and they still exist now, the difference being that humanity is getting more and more wicked. Why do you ask???????

Image result for sin against god catholic

I’d like to think that humanity is more educated now, we have access to so much information and getting it is easy via the internet.  We have more money now, our Old Testament ancestors didn’t have all this and the benefit of the wisdom and teaching passed on by Jesus Christ.  We have Jesus and His spirit to guide us and to lead us to the truth, but many of us young and old choose to ignore it.

When our children were growing up, we would watch TV shows together, that brought up certain contentious issues that we could discuss and bring God’s light into the problem. Open conversations are crucial, especially from teenagers’ inquiring minds who need direction, not necessarily from their peers, but a nurturing spirit and an infilling of truth from people who have a deep understanding for our living God and how He is at work in our lives. We still  watch movies now on TV or go to the movies and discuss the lessons and morals in them.

I write this because I have a concern for our youth, I have a concern because I believe some, young and old, do not have a heaven perspective. Some people seem to think that they’re invincible. They have no plan for eternity.

Make no mistake God is our judge and vindicator….If God is been offended then He sets the standard for justice, it’s not up to me or you, but God.

I’d like to finish by saying that God offers redemption, to all those who open their hearts to Him and believe.

Where do you get your validation from?

What I see today is many people who look for approval from their peers, it’s not necessarily a bad thing but consider this. To a degree we all have biases, a certain unfulfilled ambition, unresolved issues, disappointments, judgements and problems that can all cloud our judgements and decisions when we look to our peers for advice and validation.

Image result for validation from God not peers

Our peers may be  people who may have a wealth of knowledge but may be experience or spiritually poor.  Where are they in their journey to strive for the truth? So how can advice or validation from anyone be what we need, or be the answer to our problems?

Image result for validation from God not peers

I say we need validation from the higher one. The one who knew us before our parents had us, before the world even knew our name, before the world hated us for bearing his name.Image result for validation from God not peers

How do we get validation from God?  Make your path straight, repent, forgive, pray, give, acknowledge, praise, worship the one who died to know you. We ask for the answers we need and wait to hear from Him. Try it! It works!

I don’t think I’m alone in  saying that there is turmoil in and around us right now! Increase in crime, suicides, unemployment, family abuse, robberies and break ins, carjacking, disrespect for authority and the law, disrespect for democracy, drug abuse, alcohol,  depression, anxiety, bullying, poverty, sexual/verbal abuse, homelessness.. and more. So  this is where progress and our increased freedoms have lead us to? GET ME OUT OF HERE!! Really…… who needs this kind of progress???? I say…… we are going backwards.

I remember a time when life was simpler, easier, less congested, uncomplicated and orderly. Society is too quick to throw out what was good from our past to make way for progress.

The latest IPhones, IPads, cars, holidays, designer attire, isn’t going to fulfill us(it might for a brief moment) I’m talking about something that is lasting, that inner peace that translates into good sleep, good relationships, happy families and a relationship with God.

I hope this video clip will help put things in perspective, that only when things are right with God can we be truly at peace. A heart at rest is a heart at peace. When our will is united with God’s will, then and only then can we have union with Him.

God gave Jesus dominion over this earth, God gave us His Son Jesus to help fight our battles. We need to have a heaven perspective not an earthly one, because the second brings destruction and the first brings us in union with our creator God.

Dear Father God, we thank You for this beautiful world we live in. Please help us to follow your Son Jesus as He will lead us to the absolute truth and through Him, we will be in union with You in heaven. AMEN

God has a plan for you,  He knitted you in your mother’s womb. He knows everything about you. Your plan for your life was mapped out before you were born.

All you have to do is claim your inheritance. God opens doors for you but you have to recognise the opportunity and know that it’s the right path to pursue. How do we know that, you might ask? You have to pray and ask God to show you, if you don’t understand God’s messages, ask again and ask that the answer come in a way that you understand.

If still you have nothing, then you have to repent and forgive, as sin becomes blockages to hearing God’s Word. Our lives can be so cluttered and full that God’s messages cannot get through to us. Persist and the answer will come.

Sometimes the answer may come ever so gently that we miss it altogether, then continue to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to infill you afresh with the gifts of knowledge, wisdom and understanding.(See HOLY SPIRIT )

God does open doors, because He is a God of abundance. Have you had a stranger give you a kind word? A friend that came just at  the time that you needed them? A promotion that came just at the right time? Money, just turned up that you didn’t know you had? Well, I have had all these and I know they just weren’t coincidences. God set them in motion.

God closes doors too, even though you don’t want them closed. Something or someone suddenly stops or is out of your life. Why you might ask? Well, you don’t have the full picture and you cannot foresee what is to come, that door that was closed may not have been the best path for you, it could have lead to destruction or it may have been not what you needed.

This reminds me of a eulogy I heard many years ago of a father burying his teenage daughter because of her choices of partners. The daughter’s partner led her to drugs and on the first hit of heroine, the daughter died from an overdose. God did not interfere with the daughter’s choice and prior, her father gently warned the daughter of his suspicions, but they were ignored. The daughter’s choices and consequence of not listening to someone who loved her and had her best interests at heart, were devastating to say the least.

There was a huge gathering at this funeral and young teenage boys and girls listened intently to the father’s every word. With pain in his heart, the father didn’t even speak evil words about the daughter’s partner, he said….“God took the evil away from her, God the Father has her now and is looking after her instead”.     WOW!!!!! What powerful words indeed. His faith helped him understand that the door closed shut for his daughter because there was prolonged evil to come. As a mother of teenage daughters myself then, my heart was breaking, but the power in those words helped me understand how God permits certain things and removes other things from our lives as well.

The daughter’s grades at school were excellent. She didn’t deserve to have her short life taken away. She had a very promising future ahead of her, but this highlights how our lives are very fragile and that those split second decisions can make or break us. But God does help us, He wants us all to prosper, but we need to stay close to Him, we need to have a relationship with Him, we need to pray.

Nothing happens in our lives if not to teach us something.

We have to trust God and allow Him to do His work. We have to surrender to HIM .

Life is full of problems, ups and downs, no one is immune to it and at times your faith can be shaken or even tested. You may have done everything you possibly could, yet you’ve been dealt with a raw deal that leaves you bewildered, unsure and with the unknown.

But this beautiful and world renowned Psalm 23, is crucial as to how God would want us to live our lives.

Image result for psalm 23 esv bible gateway

First of all in the historical context of the Hebrews, you have to understand that the role of a shepherd was very important, it brought an income and food for the family. The source of this psalm is pertinent as it was written by David, who was a shepherd boy, the one who fought the giant with his slingshot and won. The shepherd is a metaphor for God. God has given us Jesus to fight our battles on this earth, through the cross  Jesus took all our problems with Him, all our physical, emotional and spiritual ones so that He could make our burdens lighter on this earth and help us resolve our issues. The metaphor for sheep is us, now let’s just look at sheep for a minute, they are not the smartest of the animal hierarchy,

in fact they are at the bottom. They need to be taken to where there is food and water, they are easy prey, they cannot defend themselves and cannot fight back, they are not well camouflaged either. If there is noise where there is water they will not drink it, they would then die. The shepherd may have to take the sheep high up the hill or mountain to find food, here wolves and wild animals prey on sheep, so with his staff, the shepherd would use the end of it to kill the sheep’s prey, with the shepherd’s crook he would reign the sheep in, away from danger.

So there’s the metaphor and analogy. Now please don’t take this as you being dumb, it just serves to explain how fragile we are and how much we need Jesus in our lives. It shows how much God cares for us and understands our trials and tribulations.

Image result for Jesus loves his sheep as the shepherd

Now David knew the role of a shepherd well, hence the relevance to this psalm. David went through many hardships in his life,  he prayed and waited on the Lord to lead him to where he needed to be and to answer his prayers. God prepared him and raised him to be a great king. David trusted God.

This psalm goes into the valley of death, meaning our tribulations where we need not fear(the present). This psalm goes into the future where you may think your enemies have got off scot free, not true. It says that God will prepare a banquet for you (future-afterlife), where your enemies will be the envy.  In other words, God will be the ultimate vindicator and judge.

You need to have a relationship with God, you need to communicate with Him, ask Him for what He thinks is best for you. Ask Him to show you in a way that you understand and to make the path clear for you. You may not get exactly what you want but it will be what you need.

Like the good shepherd, Jesus will meet you where you are and take you through the journey and if you have patience, perseverance and wait on the Lord, your questions will be answered.

Learn this psalm 23(see above) by rote and recite it everyday as a prayer and the answers will come. I know it works because I have seen the good that follows.

God bless you all and may the spirit of Jesus live in you.
