RELIGION AND POLITICS – WHY SEPARATE THEM?

We seem to be moving very fast at this particular point in time, with bills for euthanasia and assisted suicide, marriage equality, radical gender programmes, abortion etc…..with all these issues, who is the best at deciding what is righteous and what is bad for all of mankind? What is best for our spiritual well being?

Laws of state that govern us do not take into account what God wants of us.  What our obligation is in upholding God’s laws. God’s laws are there to protect us from getting into more strife. Laws of state have the potential to grow into something really sinister, land us into more strife and problems that affect others. You can’t remove the human element from all these, lack of monitoring and enforcement from the authorities have the potential for abuse.

Just look at our track record into some of the areas such as marriage, family law-divorce and child protection, jail sentencing and bail for criminals etc….

What is the answer to all this? The answer is in Mark 12:17

What would the church know about the economy and fiscal policy?                              What would the state know about our spiritual well being? What would the state know about salvation and the afterlife?

As Jesus stated in Mark 12:17

Let the experts do their job and leave the matters of spirituality to God. God wants to save us, God wants us to go to Him when this life ends,  God wants for your inheritance in heaven. God can veto any or all of man’s laws. This world and everything in it belongs to Him.

The spirit of the passage (Mark 12:17) requires us to regard the rights of all beings as sacred, and to give to them all that is theirs.

I. What is due to God? Or what are the things, the property of God, which our Saviour here requires us to render to Him? “The earth is the Lord’s,” etc. Of course we, and all that we possess, are God’s property. More particularly-

1. Our souls with all their faculties.

2. Our bodies.

3. Our time.

4. All our knowledge and literary acquisitions.

5. Our temporal possessions.

6. Our influence.

He, then, who withholds from God any of these things, or any part of them, does not comply with the precept in the text.( Courtesy Studylight.org. )

So, God can veto any or all of man’s laws. He has spoken in the bible, we should follow Jesus’ example and allow Him to guide us through our heaven journey because this life is so short and eternity……  well…………….I still find it hard to fathom, but as for me, I would rather the pain now for the gain later……
